Pine Cone Silk Painting
Biog
I use digital technology to produce affordable, ‘bespoke’ designs, which can be tailored to fit homes of all styles and eras. My designs reflect a strong personal style founded on drawing skills and a bold and creative use of colour.
After Foundation at Central School of Art I studied Textiles at UCA, Farnham followed by 20 years, Teaching all aspects of Art. Between 2005 – 7 I developed my creative practice producing intricate batiks and silk paintings, had my first solo exhibition and was awarded funding for training and business development.
Already using Photoshop to develop ideas for my silk paintings, I grew increasingly interested in the effects I could achieve by printing my designs directly on to fabric.
In 2008 I produced my first range of digitally printed designs based on architectural details in Cambridge and exhibited, for the first time, at Craft Central’s Designers Sale as part of London Design Week. Since that time I have developed and improved my range, showing my work at a wide range of venues including the Contemporary Textiles Fair, the East London Design Show and at Craft Central as part of ‘One Week Boutique’ in London Design Week 2011. In 2009/10 I was nominated for the ‘Hidden Art’ award for Textile Design
Living near London, I take every opportunity to explore the city, visit exhibitions and get inspiration. I am particularly fond of the work of Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious, which inspired the design of my ‘Street Diamond’ cushion, based on a London drain cover. My favourite Museums are the V&A and the Estorick Collection both for their permanent displays and the fascinating exhibitions they put on.
