Kate Fisher

Ceramicist
I have always had a huge interest in all crafts; I knitted and made costumes for myself throughout my childhood. I thought I would specialise in textiles when I was on my degree. That was until I was able to have a go on a potters wheel, from that day I was hooked! Potting is my passion!

Q:You show some cylinders in your Portfolio. Are any of these for sale, and if so what are the prices, please?
Asked by Kate Fisher on 02 May 2012
A:Sorry for the delay in my response. I am afraid they all sold at an exhibition during christmas so there are none left. Thanks for your enquiry. Kate Fisher

60 second interview

Q: What is your favourite colour?A: GreenQ: Who first inspired you to start making/ creating and what words of advice did they give you?A: Stephen Baker was my throwing teacher and he really helped me to look carefully at what I was doing and to be mindful about my work. He emphasised the importance of finishing the rims and getting a defined line where needed as these things can make or break the overall shape of an item, he understood my passion for form. Q: Where and when do you most like to work?A: I like to work anywhere there is a potter's wheel, I'm not too fussy, although I do like to have my wheel facing a window with a nice view. I work better late morning onwards.Q: Which season of the year most inspires you?A: SpringQ: What can't you work without?A: Well, there are the obvious items like my wheel and clay and I have a select few tools that are my favourites to use, such as my little wooden stick that finishes every piece I throw. I love to have music playing too.Q: Whose work do you most admire?A: I love the work of Hans Coper; his forms are beautiful and very influencial. I also like the work of Issey Miyake as a lot of his clothes have a very interesting form. There are so many others and they vary greatly, but they take the lead at the moment.Q: What is your favourite piece of fiction and why?A: Well... There are a few; the classic Lord of the Rings, and the collection of stories that have truly made me look at life in a completely different and positive way are The Celestine Prophecy's.Q: What do you do to relax?A: I like to meditate, walk in nature and listen to music, mostly reggae as I like to DJ with that genre.Q: Describe your artistic style in 3 words. A: Cool, Calm and Contemporary.

What Kate Fisher is working on

Off to Fireworks, Ceramic and Glass exhibition at Blackthorpe Barns in Suffolk next weekend. Haven't taken part in an event for a while so I'm really looking forward to it!

Started making my extra large totem vases today! Really excited to get on with them this week, going to be a slight challenge as they'll be made approximately 80-90cm tall at the end of the process!

A new year and a new studio! So excited to get organised and start making ready for the British Craft Trade Fair and the Fireworks exhibition.

I would like to say thank you to all of the Seek and Adore customers for supporting British Crafts people. Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Fantastic New Year!

December exhibition all set up in Diss. I'm pleased with it and looking forward to the open evening where I will be showing my new items.
