Made from a combination of vintage woolen blankets, each design has been applied by hand using free machine embroidery as a drawing tool, creating spontaneous stitches that echo seabirds in flight. Inspired by my childhood memories of spending days on beaches along the Sussex coast and my love of remote beaches, beautiful shorelines and stunning views, I wanted to create pieces that would evoke anyone’s memory and love of the British coastline.
Care instructions
Wash on cold for woolen fabrics in a washing machine, will shrink if washed at 30 degrees or higher. Ideally wash by hand in cool water.
Materials
Vintage woolen blankets are selected for colour and texture to reflect the British coastline, looking at driftwood, pebbles, sand, grasses, sailing boats, fishing vessels and skyline for inspiration. These are then boiled so that they felt providing a beautiful surface to embroider on and touch. Grey and blue threads are used to embroider the images reflecting the pens and pencils I use to draw with, when sketching outside on location.
