Product info

A square bowl in zebrano(also known as zebrawood), with a small part on one edge in the typical light coloured sapwood and the remainder in the stripey heartwood. I put an inset bead in the top and another one to match in the base.

Care instructions

To prevent the colour fading do not display in direct sunlight. I polished it with carnauba wax which is hard wearing and non-toxic. If the surface become mottled, rub with fine wire wool - 0000 grade - and then coat with any cooking oil and leave to dry for 24 hours. If used just as a display object, dust as needed

Materials

Made on my lathe using standard turning tools, taking care 1) not to put too much strain on the small crack near one corner which is typical of zebrano and 2) to keep my fingers well away from the fast moving corners.

Dimensions

Width: 25.4 cm Height: 4.5 cm Depth: 25.4 cm

Wood is an enormously varied and versatile material. In my workshop in Oxford I use mostly locally sourced timber, especially ash, sycamore and elm - but not oak to which I am allergic - to make a range of turned products, many using my signature inlays.
