Inspiring Mothers

Posted on 4 March 2011 by Hatty Fawcett

In the run up to Mother’s Day, we asked our makers what influence their mothers have had on their work. It turns out they play a major part.

For Sue Gregor it all started in the “creative playroom”
Sue Gregor’s Mum encouraged her daughters to be creative – and she herself was an Architect. She gave them lots of art materials and turned the basement of their house into a creative playroom. As a child, Sue was even encouraged to paint on the walls – creating exciting murals. For Sue, her abiding childhood memory is one of always being busy making.

Kate Schuricht’s Mum is her biggest fan…
Kate Schuricht’s Mum has been a constant supporter of Kate’s work – but more than that, she is Kate’s biggest fan. Over 16 years, Kate’s Mum has amassed the biggest collection of Kate’s work and often insists on buying new pieces even before they go on show. Her collection spans 16 years and shows the development in Kate’s designs and glazes. It takes the idea of keeping your children’s first artworks to a whole new level – but, when you see Kate’s work, you can understand why.
