Six Decades of Creativity: 1980s

1980s

More home owners in Britain with the ‘right to buy’ scheme meant more people could stamp their identities on their homes. Initially there was a reaction against the bold patterns of the 70s and a more minimalist style emerged before this gave way to brighter colours and smaller florals used sparingly in borders, curtains, cushions and bedspreads. Polka dots were also in fashion for a while. Dado rails became popular. A sense of harking back to the past.

Which designer-makers best exemplify this era?

Isobel Anderson
