Coral - anniversary commission, an early piece combining my metalwork and beading
Biog
After completing a Foundation in Art at Chelsea College of Art, I chose a degree in Silversmithing, Jewellery and Allied Crafts, and graduated with a BA(hons) in 1999. I set up my independent studio in SW London and have contined my journey of learning ever since. I was introduced to beading in 2003 and have self taught myself many of the traditional stitches over the years. My love of silver was always slightly hampered by a need for colour in my work, which beading gives me in abundence. Now I strive to combine my metalwork with original beaded designs. I using age old traditional techniques from around the world to creat bold, contemporary designs which are as beautiful to look at as to touch. My current style of work enables me to make large, dramatic three dimentional forms which are lightweight and comfortable to wear. I enjoy mixing colours and finding new combinations with my bead work just as an artist would use paint.
As I am continually looking to take my work on to the next level I enjoy both working on my current collection and taking on bespoke commissions which may open my mind to new avenues of thinking.
I am a member of the Surrey Guild of Craftsmen, Association of Contemporary Jewellers,JSN and The Beadworkers Guild where I have taught in their London workshops.
I hope you enjoy my work,Dani.C
